Remi ♥
Remi, short for Remington, is my youngest cousin (I am the eldest). Out of my entire extended family, Remi lives the furthest from me geographically - I live in New England and she lives in Texas. We also span a cultural spectrum - I grew up in a liberal, mostly secular environment, whereas she was raised conservative and evangelical. That said, I have always seen her as my doppelganger, the sister I never had.
These images document Remi when she was a high school student at a private Christian school in ex-urban Texas. I photographed her through a lens of fondness and nostalgia, and found the camera acted as a distorted mirror for what I know of myself. Her story is familiar, yet foreign and vague. I feel the desire to merge into one being - to exist both in her world and in mine, and yet know it is a dream. And so, I observe, fret, and adore.
