Elizabeth Clark Libert is a photo-based, interdisciplinary artist. Applying a range of visual and contextual approaches, she utilizes the artistic process to explore and reflect on personal life experiences and identity.
Libert received a BA in Fine Art from Amherst College in 2005, a post-baccalaureate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 2008, and an MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts in 2010. Images from her MFA thesis received the Photo District News Student Award in 2010 and the Magenta Foundation Emerging Artist Award in 2011. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally at museums, galleries, and non-profit institutions, and is held in both private and public collections, including the Fidelity Investments Collection and the Candela Collection. Libert’s images have been featured in print and online publications such as T: The New York Times Style Magazine, The New Yorker Photo Booth, and Mockingbird, and she has been interviewed by Lenscratch, MaMagazine, Concept Aware, and Grenade in a Jar.
Her first monograph, Boy Crazy, was published 2023 by Workshop Arts. Boy Crazy was shortlisted for the 2023 Rencontres d'Arles Book Awards, and was awarded a book prize for Belfast Photo Festival 2024. The book was acquired into special collections at the Houston Museum of Fine Art and at University of Colorado at Boulder. Upcoming solo exhibitions are scheduled for Hobart and William Smith College in 2025 and Danforth Art Museum in 2026.
Libert serves on the board of the Griffin Museum of Photography and several philanthropic committees in the Boston area, where she lives with her family.
